MESSAGE FROM SMHA PRESIDENT REGARDING AGM & REGISTRATION

Dear Members…

June 12th at 7:00 pm was the Stettler Minor Hockey AGM. To put this bluntly, the attendance by members (this is EVERY person who has a child entered into hockey via the SMHA) was abysmal to say the least. For the last few years we have had to continue to run with open positions on the Board, and we cannot continue to run in this manner. The current Board and Executive are taxed, and they are having to help cover these slots so that your child can play hockey. We deal with complaints, suggestions, people telling the SMHA that they are doing things all wrong, but yet we have very few who willingly step up and help us, with their support and input.

 

This Association relies on Volunteers to make the hockey season run as smoothly as possible. We fully understand that sometimes these positions are a thankless job, but the positions need to be filled nonetheless. We need individuals to put in the time and take on the duties of these various positions in order for your child to continue to play this game. When you volunteer you enable us to ensure that ALL the children’s best interests are taken into account.

 

Again to reiterate we need ALL the positions on the Board filled with a member, it’s essential for our success. It is unfortunate that it has come to this, but if we do not get the current vacant positions filled, we will be withholding registration for the upcoming season. As such, the longer it takes to fill these positions also means that the payment plan that SMHA has in place will diminish. If we have all positions filled before July 1 we can still have the 3 payment plan. If we don’t get them filled until after this time, then only 2 payments will be available and if it continues too late into the summer it will end up as a one lump sum payment for the season. We understand that many of the members need the payment plan to ease the financial burden and we don’t want to have this happen to our members. The SMHA has strived to make the opportunity to play hockey easy and available for everyone, but this is the situation we are currently in...

VP of Operations (outgoing VP has said that he will help and mentor the new person) 
Equipment Director
Fundraising Director
CAHL Governors x2
Novice Director
PeeWee Director
Female Director
