U9

Welcome U9

Sep. 10 - 2024

Hello U9 Families,

My name is Ashley Strome, I will be your U9 director this season. This is my 4th year with a child in minor hockey, but my 1st year in a position so please bare with me as i navigate this new role! I will be your contact for any questions and concerns you might have throughout our season, if I can't answer right away I will find the answer and likely learn a thing or 2 along the way!

I am sure we are all looking forward to getting the kids on the ice, although we will have to wait just a little bit longer. Mark your calendars for the start of our season on October 8th. I am currently working with our other board members, Ice Allocator and Player Development to get the ball rolling . When we start the season, we will be having developmental skates for the first while, before we select teams and start games. Shortly after teams are selected, I will have a Game Schedule available as well as Local Tournaments for each team to attend.

RIS Parent Instructions: THIS IS REQUIRED PRIOR TO YOUR PLAYER BEING ON THE ICE

Go to the following Hockey Alberta LINK to log in/create a Hockey Alberta account, and to take the course.  After you take the course, you must do the survey and add your child to your profile through the same Hockey Alberta site.

If you are adding a new player to your profile, click "profile" on the top bar.  Under "profile", click "child management".  Under "child management", there is an option to add a child.  Enter your child's information and address.  It will auto-populate your child and their hockey member ID number.

While we wrap up the details for Ice, Starting our season etc. I can provide you with a few further quick notes:

Team Socks- We do NOT need game Socks. Your player will be provided some with their team jersey, please just make sure your player has a set of practice socks and jersey.

Bacon Fundraiser- This will be our first fundraiser of the year, it is always a great success! Dates coming soon!

Home Tournament- February 22-23rd.

Parent Emails- I do know that I have some parents who might not be receiving these emails yet, while we work out the fine details with our RAMP software. Please ensure that anyone who needs to know about your players hockey gets sent these emails or knows to reference the U9 drop down on our SMHA WEBSITE I might not be able to get these updated until we have our teams selected. We are also looking to add some different types of communication this year. More information will come on this soon.

Coaches- I am asking for as many parents who are interested in coaching to apply as soon as possible we ALWAYS need coaches. You will need to complete RIS Activity leader course as soon as possible because coaches cannot go on the ice without it, in addition to a Criminal record check. (We have letters available for this, feel free to reach out if you need it)

Medical Forms- We require each player to have an updated medical form completed, I will send this out at a later date.

Volunteer Cheques-  Each FAMILY is required to provide your director with a Volunteer Cheque- POST DATED to March 31st 2025 for $200. If you have this the first week, I would graciously accept them! - I will provide more updates in the near future on how to get volunteer hours- Fundraising is our main option.

Equipment- Some families are familiar and some may not be, so I'd like to take a moment to share the equipment requirements for each player.

*If your child played on a U9 team last year and handed their jersey and socks in at the end of the season and you would like your child's back, please send me an email with their team color and number and I will set those aside to get them back to you.  Any left over will go to other players who are wanting to use these for Practice Jerseys.
