Before you register:

1. The Shift Forward (previously Respect in Sport)
At least one parent/guardian must hold valid Respect in Sport or The Shift Forward Parent/Guardian certification, as per Hockey Canada.


2. SMHA Policies & Procedures
Please review SMHA Policies & ProceduresNew and revised policies include: Evaluation, Player Acceleration, Injured Player and Affiliated Player Policies.

Age Divisions & Fees for 2026-27 Season


Registration fees support applicable ice rentals (practices/home games), officials, player fees and insurance, evaluations, use of jerseys, league fees and player/goalie development. 

*U11-U18 registration includes $125 evaluation fee, including outside evaluators for 2026-27 team formation. Female divisions will collect an additional $125 fee only if evaluations are required.


New to Hockey

Trying Out Elsewhere (AAA / AA)
Players must still register with SMHA to ensure a spot if they do not make a higher level team. You have the ability to select "Trying Out Elsewhere" in your registration and are required to pay a minimum portion of your fee. If player makes a team and is playing elsewhere, please notify SMHA Registrar as soon as possible and registration will be refunded, save a $20 development fee. If player returns to SMHA, the remaining balance of registration fee will be due.


Overage Players
Players may be eligible for Overage status if they are one birth year older than the maximum age for the Division and have a date of birth between November 1 and December 31 of that year. 18 year old players are only eligible if they are still enrolled full-time in high school (with consideration of U18 division numbers). You will need to contact the Registrar directly to register.


Volunteer Commitment
All SMHA families are required to complete at minimum 8 volunteer hours per season. A $200 volunteer cheque will be collected and cashed only if hours are not fulfilled.


Financial Assistance
Payment plans are available at registration check out. There are also Financial Assistance Programs families can apply for including: KidsportJumpstart and Hockey Canada Assist Fund.
