U9

Welcome to U9!

Sep. 09 - 2025

Hello U9 Families,

My name is Halle Vanderlee and I will be your U9 director this season. This is my third year with a child in minor hockey and my first year as the director for this division so please bear with me as I navigate this new role! I will be your contact for any questions and concerns you might have throughout the season.

Our season doesn't start until the week of September 29th. Our practices will be on Mondays or Wednesdays and Saturdays, with games on Fridays. Some Fridays your player may not have a game as only four teams will play a game on Friday, these alternate weekly. This year we have quite a large group and there will be six U9 teams. When we start the season we will have some developmental practices for the first while before we select teams and start games. Shortly after the teams are selected, I will have a game schedule. Each team will attend one away tournament and we will have our home tournament on the weekend of February 7&8. In addition, we will have a picture night (date to be determined) once teams are selected.

Housekeeping item(s):

Respect in Sport Parent Instructions - THIS IS REQUIRED PRIOR TO YOUR PLAYER BEING ON THE ICE

Go to the following Hockey Alberta link to login/create a Hockey Alberta account and take the course. After you take the courses, you must do the survey and add your child to your profile through the same Hockey Alberta Site.

If you are adding a new player to your profile, click "profile" on the top bar. Under "profile", click "child management". Under "child management", there is an option to add a child. Enter your child's information and address. It will auto populate your child and their hockey member ID number.

If you have not already done this, please do so!!

While we wrap up the details for ice, starting our season etc. I can provide you with a few further quick details:

Team socks - we do NOT need game socks. Your player will be provided with a team jersey and team socks. Please just make sure your player has practice socks and a practice jersey.

Bacon fundraiser - This will be our first fundraiser of the year. It is always a great success and counts towards your volunteer hours that you're required to complete. More information and dates coming soon!

Home tournament - February 6-8, 2026

Coaches - if you are at all interested in coaching, please apply as soon as possible. We ALWAYS need coaches. You will need to complete the RIS Activity Leader course as soon as possible as coaches cannot go on the ice without it. In addition you will also need a criminal record check (we have letters available for this on the website, feel free to reach out if you need it). Also if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Medical Form - We require each player to have an updated medical form completed you can find at this link. If the link doesn't work type in your search bar - Stettler Minor Hockey Medical Form.

Volunteer Cheques - Each FAMILY is required to provide your director with a volunteer cheque - post dated to March 30, 2026 for $200. If you have this the first week, I will graciously accept them! I will provide more updates in the near future on how to get volunteer hours - fundraising is our main option.

Equipment - Some families are familiar and some may not be, so I always like to take a moment to share the equipment requirements for each player. I will be looking to do a handout of some OLD timbits jerseys and socks if players are wanting to use these for practice jerseys. Date and availability will be released on this soon!

Equipment list:
-skates (sharpened)
-shin pads
-hockey pants
-gloves
-elbow pads
-shoulder pads
-neck guard
-helmet (with name on the front)
-practice jersey
-jock/jill
-hockey socks
-hockey stick
-water bottle (labelled with name)

I think that is all for now! I am looking forward to this season! I know it is a lot of information, please know that I am available for any questions or if my links don't work please let me know.

Thanks everyone,
Halle Vanderlee
